Digital X-ray |
Computed Radiography is similar to conventional radiography in many ways however it differentiates itself in a few key aspects. Instead of using film CR uses an imaging plate made of photostimulable phosphor. CR helps eliminate the need for a dark room and the time lag between developing exposed film. Imaging plates are put through a CR reader that then digitalizes the image. After the image has been put through the special laser scanners or the CR reader the image may be manipulated and changed more precisely, which can also be done with a digital x-ray.
Digital Radiography uses x-ray sensors in the place of using traditional photographic film. Images are digitally transferred so that there is no need to use any chemical processes as all. DR systems use less radiology which can be harmful to patients. Digital x-ray systems also save quite a bit of time because the image can been seen and manipulated as soon as it is taken with no time lapse. DR systems capture images directly on a flat panel detector, there is no need for a cassette. CR require an imaging plate to capture images.
